Meet Mr. Brian Styskal! Bryan is a Washington native and grew up on a farm in Ellensburg, Washington! We hear that BrianÐ¥s dad had plans for his sonÐ¥s future, part of which involved getting him off to Arizona State University to play baseball and hopefully move onto professional ranks on the diamond. The problem was that there was a small creek that ran behind the StyskalÐ¥s property... Grandpa knew about the creek and how to catch the trout in the creek. The creek served as BrianÐ¥s first exposure with a fly and the years of fly rod madness can probably be traced back to GrandpaÐ¥s fault orÐŽGrandpaÐ¥s master plan! When I asked Brian about his Fly-Fishing mentors he stopped abruptly at Mike Kinney Aaron Reimer! From my 45 minute conversation with Brian, about Mike, it became clear that Mr. Kinney too had a huge influence on BrianÐ¥s life or madness. Mike taught Brian how to build and splice spey lines together prior to quality commercially available spey lines. The Speybum Aaron Reimer has also served as a mentor and friend. Aaron, through the years had encouraged Brian to take his casting to the next level and become an instructor. When asked about BrianÐ¥s interest outside the realm of Spey casting and Steelhead, Brian replied, ТLargemouth BassУ on the fly. I hope you are starting to get the picture! Mr. Styskal is an accomplished Spey instructor and Superman Spey Caster. In fact, he should have an honorary four year degree in building lines, researching and re-creating classic Atlantic Salmon flies that date as far back as 400 years, working through, dissecting and figuring out Steelhead water, casting technique and the ability to pass his knowledge onto a new crowd of Тwould beУ fly fisherÐ¥s through teachingÐŽBut he doesnÐ¥t!!! Be that as it may, at Hatch we like him and are proud to have an outstanding guy like Brian Styskal as part of the Hatch team! HereÐ¥s how to contact Brian about Hatch, personal Spey instruction or to give him a free hour of psychiatric evaluation: (425) 417-5018, blackspey@hotmail.com or Northwest Spey Casters Instruction.
