Jeff Massey
United States, New Mexico, Navajo Dam
Jeff has been a Pro Guide on the San Juan River in northwest New Mexico since 1991. Jeff puts over 200 days a year on the Juan and he has an intimate knowledge of this river that is unsurpassed. He has been exclusive to Soaring Eagle Lodge for the last 7 years and is their head guide for the last 3 years. He is an accomplished fly tier and has a number of Тno failУ patterns that many of the other guides on the river all use. He has also fished extensively in the North American west, fishing in Colorado, Idaho and Montana to mention a few. Jeff has a PhD in Trout but any quarry with a fly rod is fair game. When his not guiding on the Juan he is up on the lake in the pursuit of Bass and Pike. On his down time in the winter months he can be found in South AmericaХs Patagonia Region X or wondering the flats of Mexico and Belize. He is as proficient with a 1 wt rod on a small Colorado mountain stream as he is with an 11 wt casting a 100 foot Tropical Clouser into the backing after a giant Tarpon. He is a bit anal when it comes to his gearЎ! Of course it has to be clean and tidy but most importantly it has to perform, not just some of the time but every time. Jeff is well known in the fly fishing industry and has been asked to test a lot of tackle over the years, because the Reps and Manufacturers know he will give it to them straight. There is really no middle of the road for Jeff when it comes to equipment, it either works or does not and he will let them know point blank. Jeff is a native New Mexican who lives in Aztec with his faithful black lab Winston.
