Captain John Ford has been fly fishing New England's water for most of his life. John has spent the last 15 yrs of his 40yr life making Casco Bay and the Gulf of Maine his home. The backbone of his business was built on fishing striped bass in the clear shallow waters of Casco Bay. After years of pursuing the small bluefin tuna of Cape Cod, he has pioneered the fly fishery for tuna along Maine’s coast and to say it has become a personal obsession is an understatement, creating and evolving patterns and techniques to pursue this great gamefish.
John has written for and been featured in Saltwater Sportsman Mag, Fly Fishing in Salt Waters, Fly Rod & Reel, Saltwater Flies of the Northeast and has appeared on ESPN. He has had the pleasure of fishing many famous and accomplished anglers, in 2007 he guided Barry and Cathy Beck both to their first ever Bluefin Tuna caught on fly. Although bluefins are no place for a “newbie” to begin he enjoys teaching the sport to everyone willing to try.
He spends much of the Maine “off-season” hosting groups to exotic locations around the world.
“ Fishing every imaginable piece of fly fishing equipment out there, when chasing huge powerful fish there is no second best. When you are in for the big PULL it’s nice to know that Hatch has your back !!”
