I grew up on Long Island and spent my youth fishing between Western Long Island Sound and the East End.
I got my first boat at age 13 and my favorite thing to do was to chase striped bass and blues while they were surface feeding. After high school I worked as a mate on a head boat for 2 years. I continued to split my time fishing between Western and Eastern Long Island until 1986. I got sick of running the boat out East evey fall or new moon for big bass. I took the boat out east permanently and never looked back. Spent 1986 through 1990 fishing around Orient Point specifically targeting big fish on conventional tackle when I realize what an awesome unexploited light tackle fishery it was. I always loved fly fish and in 1992 I changed my focus from bait at night to flies in the light.
I have been fly guiding for 12 years now and in that time have done two shows with the “Reel Guys” on ESPN 2 and another with Tim Rajeff on the “LL Bean Guide to the Outdoors” show. Also happy to be a member of the Scott Fly Rod Pro Staff.
I can finally say I found my niche fishing the North Fork of Long Island. My season runs from May through November and target striped bass, blues, bonito and false albacore.
