The NEW FINATIC Reel Is Here

Once again Hatch changes gears and surprises everyone with the launch of the new FINATIC reel design.  “I guess we could have kept doing the same thing year after year but where’s the fun in that”, says Hatch’s co-founder and President John Torok.  “It’s important that we keep the product fresh and push the boundaries of reel design.  However, we need to make sure we do it intelligently”.

The benefits of the new design are many including: 6 to 15% lighter weight in all models and a new fin like design in the porting of the frame and spools.  But perhaps the most important factor is that the new reels are 100% backwards compatible with previous models. “The overall sizing remains the same. Only the weight, frame, and spool porting have changed. We didn’t want to make our older products obsolete.  Rather, we wanted a new design that complemented what we’ve already done.  This is important for both dealers and customers who currently own or sell our products.  Since we’ll be effectively eliminating the Pulse and Monsoon frame styles, this was a major factor”. There are some other unique changes including a new contoured spool, recessed counterweight, see through reel foot porting and improved hook keeper slot in the frame.

In addition to the design changes Hatch has released the 1 Plus.  “The release was largely driven by dealer and customer demand.  For the past few years we’ve been asked for something smaller until it got to the point where we had to do it. And I’m glad we did because it’s an incredible reel.”  The new 1 Plus reel is almost 3” in diameter and weighs in at a mere 2.8 oz.  The reel incorporates the same multi disk drag system as it’s big brother counterparts and is certain to be a hit with anyone who fishes with a 0-2 weight rod. The reel comes in a mid arbor configuration only.
